Fingerless Gloves Tutorial
How Do You Make a Cool Glove?
Assuming you would like a step-by-step guide on how to make a glove:
You will need the following items:
-1/4 yard of fabric (preferably leather, suede, or something similar)
-Matching thread
-Scissors
-Ruler or measuring tape
-Pencil or chalk
-Optional: embellishments such as beads, sequins, etc.
Instructions:
1. Start by cutting out your pattern pieces. You will need two hand shapes and four finger shapes. If you are using leather or another nonstretchy fabric, you may want to add 1/2″ to 1″ around the edge of each pattern piece to allow for movement.
2. Trace the patterns onto your chosen fabric and cut them out.
3. To assemble the glove, start by sewing the thumb piece to one of the hand pieces. Then sew the remaining three fingers together and attach them to the other hand piece.
Finally, sew the two hand pieces together along the outer edge, leaving an opening at the wrist for your hand to slip through.
How Do You Make Cool Fingerless Gloves?
Assuming you would like a tutorial on how to make fingerless gloves:
What You’ll Need:
-1/2 yard of stretchy fabric (knit fabrics work best)
-Scissors
-Thread & needle OR sewing machine
-Ruler or measuring tape
Instructions:
1. Cut a rectangle of fabric that is 8″ wide and 18″ long. If your fabric has a print, be sure to cut the rectangle so that the design is running parallel to the 8″ side.
This will be the main body of the glove.
2. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise, wrong sides together, and sew along the 8″ edge using a 1/4″ seam allowance. If you’re using a sewing machine, set it to use a small zigzag stitch.
This will give some extra “give” to the seam.
3. Turn your tube right side out and press flat with an iron. Then fold it in half again so that it now measures 4″ wide by 18″ long.
Sew along this 4″ side using a 1/4″ seam allowance, once again using a small zigzag stitch or similar if you’re using a machine.
4a. To make thumbholes, first mark where they will go on each end of the glove – about 2 1/2 – 3″ down from the top edge on each side should work well for most people. Make two marks at these points, one on each side of the glove about 1/2 – 3/4″ from the folded edge (see photo).
Using scissors or a rotary cutter and ruler, cut slits at these marks that are about 2 – 21/2 ” long . . . but don’t cut all the way through to the other side! Just cut slits in each layer of fabric as shown in photo below left..

5b.(Alternatively, you can just make one large hole for your thumb instead of two smaller ones.)
How Do You Decorate Gloves?

How Do You Make Half Finger Gloves?
Assuming you would like a tutorial on how to make half finger gloves:
You will need:
-a sewing machine and thread
-fabric scraps or an old shirt to cut up
-scissors
-a pen or chalk to mark the fabric
-pins
-needle and thread (optional, for hand sewing)
First, cut out four rectangular pieces of fabric.
Two of these pieces will be the front of the glove, and two will be the back. The front pieces should be slightly longer than the back pieces. Next, take two of your rectangles (one front piece and one back piece) and put them right sides together.
Sew along the long side with a ½” seam allowance, then turn this piece right side out. Repeat this step with the other two rectangles. You should now have two tubes – one for the front of the glove, and one for the back.
Now it’s time to sew these two tubes together! First, line up the raw edges of both tubes so that the seams are facing each other in opposite directions. Pin them together along their entire length.
Then, sew these two tubes together with a ½” seam allowance just like you did before. When you get to the end, leave a 2” gap unsewn so that you can turn your gloves right side out later on. Trim off any excess thread and fabric from your seam allowances.
Turn your gloves right side out through that 2” opening at the end, then use a needle and thread (or your sewing machine) to close up that opening. Once your gloves are turned right side out, give them a good press with an iron – making sure to press those seams open! Fold in each raw edge by ¼” all around each glove, then again by another ¼” so that there is no raw edge showing whatsoever.. Pin these folds in place if necessary.. Sew close to all four edges using either a zigzag stitch or serger (if you have one). This will finish off our gloves nicely and prevent any fraying!
And there you have it – some brand new half finger gloves made entirely from scratch!
